Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
We are a weekly volunteer community radio show on Vancouver’s Co-op Radio, 1005.fm in Vancouver. The producer and creator/host of the program is Brandon, a graduate of UBC law and Uvic history with a passion for local music and community.
Our finances and structural organization is handled through the Unsigned BC Music Society, a registered not-for-profit.
What do you do?
We present 100% BC produced content in a variety of forms with a focus on providing a platform for traditionally disadvantaged communities. All of the music we play is locally created; we use locally made beats for our background music.
We play all local music created in BC.
We plan to create original audio dramas under the banner of She Doesn’t Even Go Here Productions. Check out our first production, The Yellow Wallpaper, here.
Historically, our show is a mix of interviews, songs, opinion, research, and more.
Recently our show has shifted to live content with a focus on in-studio performances.
Do you play my genre of music?
Yes, we play all genres of music. We have played hip-hop, rock, classical, hyper-pop, pop, funk, folk, country, alternative, and more.
How do I get played on your show?
Submit a song as an MP3 attachment or google drive to unsignedbcradio@gmail.com. Ensure there is no explicit content and that the file is labelled with the artist and song name.
You can also sign up for an in-studio performance by following the link here. Rules include: max four artists per day, no backing vocal tracks (no singing over your regular album release, please), no swearing, etc.
Do you do interviews?
While in the past we did do interviews as a way to allow artists to develop those skills, due to an increase in the shows popularity we have shifted to a more music oriented program with the goal of giving everyone as much airtime as possible.
How do I listen?
Listen live Saturdays at 4:00PM, or check out our back catalogue of episodes.
