COLD WORLD:
A Benefit Concert for Ukraine
The Event
Unsigned BC is putting on our first live show. May 28th, doors are at 7:00pm at the Red Gate Revue Stage on Granville Island - 1601 Johnston Street. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross.
The show is set out in a showcase like format, with each artist performing for 15-20 minutes. We wanted to bring you a handful of different genres and give you a taste of what the province has to offer.
The show will open with Victoria resident DJ Toxinz, who will be spinning some original beats for guests as they enter the venue. Toxinz has been featured on our show several times as both a rapper and producer. His in-studio performance at Unsigned BC garnered over 7,000 views.
After Toxinz wraps it up, our host will provide a brief run down on how the evening is going to go, and the first live act will step onstage at exactly 8:00pm. The talented Vancouver pianist / singer songwriter Alex Fraser will open up the evening with his energetic, sonically pleasant pop tunes and ballads. Don’t be late, you don’t want to miss a minute of this.
After Alex, Victoria Groff and Chris Clute will take the stage together. Both had strong submissions individually for the Song of the Summer competition, and attendees of our fundraiser will get to enjoy the chemistry of the real life couple together on stage as the second live act of the evening.
The third live performance of the evening is an exciting late addition to the lineup. When we created our year in review playlists on Spotify we asked our followers to vote for their favourite submission. The song with the most votes was “Over the Mountains” by Kupeo. We are thrilled to announce that Kupeo will be performing at our fundraiser. Scroll to the bottom to hear “Over the Rockies” by Kupeo.
We will also see a second appearance on an Unsigned BC production from Vancouverite and Guangzhou native A-ka, whose Mandarin hip hop was a surprise hit in our Lower Mainland Showcase. We will also be treated to the return of Cowichan Valley’s Illest Behavior, who brought an incredible and high energy performance to the Vancouver Island Showcase. You can see videos from both performances in our blog under the virtual showcases heading.
In addition, we are excited to announce that we have added Pats to the lineup. The BC native who recently moved to Vancouver is best described as a rapper’s rapper. If you are a rap traditionalist who likes an exhibition of skill, precision, wordplay, and inventive flows, Pats is going to be the highlight for you.
The final act of the evening is Vancouver’s hip hop / hyper-pop artist Howl. Their track “Waking Life” was an honourable mention in our 2021 Song of the Summer. Howl is the most recent addition to the showcase and also the most streamed artist; his feature on a BBNO$ track alone pushes his stream count up to near 1 million. Their blend of hip hop and hyper-pop is the perfect way to wrap up the evening.
The evening will be hosted by Kodak Slide of The Buddha’s at 109 East Hasting Street.
